EVERYDAY LANGUAGE FOR PRESENTATION SUCCESS
SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY
One of the greatest gifts of my Broadcast Journalism degree was learning how to write for television; specifically, how to write for TV News. I was taught to speak the way we all speak. To use words that are relatable and succinct. I was trained to tell all sides of the story within 1 minute and 15 seconds because that was the average duration of a news story on air. I’ve taken this lesson with me in so many ways because I’m trained to identify key messages quickly and to tell it like it is. I’ve realized this is really helpful in connecting with people because humanizing the experience, no matter the subject or the stakes when presenting, is really powerful!
Why You Should Use Everyday Language in Presentations
Don’t be anybody other than YOU. We only feel self-conscious when we are trying to be someone other than ourselves. Keep the language simple and easy to digest so you don’t lose them or confuse them.
